Synopsis The Advanced Physics Instrumentation program supports instrumentation that enables academic physics research groups in the U.S. to remain competitive in the rapidly changing global scientific environment. MPS Physics accepts proposals to support such instrumentation because the costs are often significantly higher than what research awards to individual investigators can typically provide. Principal investigators (PIs) cannot apply directly to the Advanced Physics Instrumentation program. PIs that require specialized equipment should request funding for that equipment as part of a regular proposal to the relevant MPS Physics core research program.
