Information before you apply to be a STEM Teacher Extern: The goal of a STEM Teacher Externship is to help teachers connect classroom content and skills to the needs of Iowa's STEM workplaces throughout our state. Teacher Externships are targeted towards licensed secondary STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) classroom educators. Externs are expected to work for 200 - 240 hours for the extern host, typically starting in June and ending in July or August for 5-6 full-time weeks. The calendar of hours, days, weeks worked are mutually worked out between extern and host. STEM Teacher Externs earn $20 per hour for a stipend of up to $5,000 and three graduate credits paid for by the STEM Teacher Externships program. A list of course requirements can be found below or on the attachments tab of Iowa Grants This application is for post degree teachers only. Submitting an application does not guarantee a placement in the program. Placements begin on March 2nd . Applications received before March 2nd will be given priority. This application takes approximately 20-25 minutes to complete. This application will be shared with prospective hosts. Please give detailed answers to help in the selection process.
