Save energy and address health and safety concerns through weatherization.Georgia’s Weatherization Assistance Program increases the energy efficiency of dwellings owned or occupied by low-income persons using whole house weatherization, which treats the house as a single energy-consuming system rather than a loose collection of unrelated pieces of equipment.Who is eligible? To be eligible for the program, your household income cannot exceed 200 percent of the federal poverty level. Preference is given to the elderly, people with disabilities, and families with children. Single-family homes, manufactured homes, and multifamily buildings are eligible.To apply for weatherization, contact your local community action agency.What happens next? If you are eligible for weatherization, your local agency will send an energy auditor to your home to perform an energy audit (due to high demand, there may be a waiting list for services in some counties). Using advanced diagnostic equipment, the auditor will determine the most cost-effective energy conservation measures to install.
