Huwighurruk is a postbaccalaureate pathway program for American Indian/Alaska Native (AI/AN) students in California who are interested in pursuing a career in medicine. The goal of the program is to recruit, retain, and train prospective medical students focused on serving (AI/AN) tribes and communities in both rural and urban areas. Students will enroll in Cal Poly Humboldt during fall and spring semesters. The program provides students with a culturally focused framework combined with academic coursework, intensive MCAT preparation, and support with the medical school application process.

Eligibility: {"Eligible applicants are California undergraduate students who are preparing to enter medical school and meet the following requirements. Be a citizen or descendant of a federally recognized American Indian/Alaska Native AI/AN Tribe or have a CDIB showing tribal affiliation, or descend from a person with a Certificate of Degree of Indian Blood (CDIB), or descend from a person on the California census rolls of 1928 or 1933, or on the California Judgment Fund Rolls of 1953 or 1972 Be a resident of California, have significant ties to California, or demonstrate significant commitment to any AI/AN communities or tribes Demonstrate a history of commitment to practice in the AI/AN community Have completed most, if not all of the undergraduate degree requirements (or higher) from an accredited U.S"}
