Resilient NJ Sign Up for Email Updates Home Resilient NJ Planning for the Future of New Jersey Climate change is a global challenge, but the impacts are experienced locally. Changes in precipitation, extreme temperatures, sea-level rise, and species shifts place stress on infrastructure, natural resources, and social and economic systems. These same impacts will directly affect public health and healthcare systems. Decisions about zoning, redevelopment, housing, open space, and other investment decisions made by local and regional governments will alter the impacts of climate change on their own and neighboring communities. Integrating climate change into these decisions and all local and regional planning efforts is imperative to ensure that investments made today are designed to withstand the conditions of tomorrow. Resilient NJ is an assistance program to support local resilience planning. Using the best available science on precipitation, temperature, and sea-level rise, Resilient NJ can help your community plan for how the changing climate may affect residents, businesses, and the natural and built environments in your area. The program supports local resilience planning by offering direct technical assistance to interested municipalities and regions and by providing a toolkit of planning resources for use in local planning efforts. Funding for Regional Planning The Notice of Funding Availability: Regional Planning Grant Questions & Answers are now available. Additionally, the deadline for the Resilient NJ: Regional Assistance Program – Regional Planning Grants has been extended. Submissions are now due at Noon on October 29, 2025. The Resilient NJ program, administered through DEP’s Office Climate Resilience, is providing the opportunity for New Jersey municipalities to apply to participate in collaborative regional planning efforts that support the development of regional resilience action plans. Through funding made available from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) as part of the Building a Climate Ready NJ initiative (https://climateready.nj.gov/), and the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), this Resilient NJ opportunity is open to municipalities in all twenty-one counties. As many as six regional teams will receive grants of up to $300,000 each to improve climate resilience in their communities. Regional teams must be made up of at least three contiguous municipalities and at least one community-based organization; and will be paired with multidisciplinary consulting teams to participate in a comprehensive planning process to develop regional resilience action plans. Grant applications are due October 29, 2025. A webinar will be held on September 3, 2025 from 2 pm to 3 pm. To learn more about this opportunity, click here to register.
