Iowa Dyslexia Specialist Endorsement Stipend Program * Do not complete the Iowa Dyslexia Specialist Endorsement Stipend if you have:* Previously been awarded the Stipend or other funding specifically support this endorsement Have not completed and graduated from the college program with the endorsement listed on the your BOEE licensure profile Program Purpose/Function section verbiage from above The dyslexia specialist endorsement is a 1.5-year (18 credit hours) endorsement approved by the Iowa Board of Educational Examiners (BOEE) in collaboration with the Iowa Reading Research Center (IRRC). The endorsement focuses solely on dyslexia and the reading development of students with dyslexia. The endorsement is available for educators with a standard license and have completed at least three years of post baccalaureate teaching experience in a K-12 setting. During the 2024 legislative session, HF 890 passed to allow a one time stipend for individuals who meet the current eligibility requirements and show the Iowa Dyslexia Specialist endorsement on their Iowa Board of Educational Examiners license. Funding is contingent on annual appropriations by the Iowa Legislature. Iowa Code section 256.44(2) as amended by HF890 requires the Department to prorate the amount of the annual award if the number of applicants exceeds the funds available. As such, dyslexia specialists may be eligible to receive a one-time only stipend of $2,000 or, if necessary, a lesser prorated amount. Stipend Qualification Requirements Have never received funding from the State of Iowa for the Dyslexia Specialist Endorsement Have completed my college/university Dyslexia Specialist Endorsement Have a valid Iowa Dyslexia Specialist Endorsement documented/listed with the BOEE on my educator license Currently employed by an Iowa educational institution in a position supporting students with Dyslexia My Iowa educational employer administration acknowledges I meet the requirements for the Dyslexia Specialist Endorsement stipend Agree to and complete the required financials documentation acknowledging the stipend is a taxable earning Iowa Educational Employer Supervisor Acknowledgment Requirements Acceptable form of validation A signed letter on Educational Institution letterhead stating Dyslexia Specialist Endorsement requirement have been met Educational Institution Email stating Specialist Endorsement requirement have been met Required Elements of the Acknowledgment Supervisor Name Iowa Educational Organization Supervisor Title Supervisor Phone Supervisor Email Financial Disclosure The Stipend is considered earned income and requires the applicant to complete a W9 Financial Form for tax reporting purposes. The stipend will not be awarded without its completion. Note: Applications submitted with missing information, financial form or supervisor approval letter and not able to be corrected and processed by July 10th will not be eligible for the stipend and will be required to apply again the following year.
