The National Audio-Visual Conservation Center (NAVCC) unit of the Library of Congress (LOC) is an audiovisual preservation and digitization facility located on the Packard Campus in Culpeper, VA. The Video Lab at the NAVCC is tasked with the digitization of multiple tape and disc formats of analog and digital video. It was designed and built to substantially emulate a video production facility and uses an Evertz Master Sync Generator system. This system provides crucial reference video test signals for the video lab. It allows the VTR’s (video tape recorder) to lock on to a reference signal which provides the most optimal conditions for error free digitization of analog video and audio into the digital signal which is then used by the encoders to create archival files.
