BACKGROUND INFORMATION The Gaithersburg Site Effluent Treatment System is located on the south end of campus at the “E” Gate intersection at Center Drive. Built in the mid-1990’s, the system was designed to comply with Washington Sanitary Sewer Commission (WSSC) effluent discharge requirements. The system is centered around a large concrete tank (wet tank) that provides primary effluent treatment with a stir / chop agitator system PH monitoring and treatment. Currently, the interior wet tank operational, structural, and life safety systems have rendered this system inoperable. Inspection has found the primary floor support has detached along the south side of the wet tank. This has caused for the aluminum grating to sag, and no longer safe for personnel entry.
