About this archived opportunity
The Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Network Contracting Office (NCO) 6, intends to negotiate a sole source contract with Biomerieux INC. for the purchase of Vitek MS Prime Maldi-TOF, at the Durham VA Medical Center (VAMC). Justification for this sole source procurement is in accordance with FAR 12.102(A) soliciting from a single source. MALDI-TOF mass spectrometry (MS), a TOF analyzer measures the mass-to-charge (m/z) ratio of the charged molecules. It is essential to identify and differentiate microbes when conducting tests to diagnose diseases and select appropriate antimicrobial treatment. One of the most potent proteomics methods, MALDI-TOF MS, is a rapid, precise, and economical way to recognize and differentiate microbes, such as bacteria, viruses, parasites, and fungi. This technology produces specific mass spectra fingerprints unique to each microorganism and thus can identify them accurately at the genus and species level. It reduces the time to identification from 24-48 hours to less than 30 minutes. The VITEK MS PRIME database enables the identification of 1,585 species, including 16,000 unique strains of bacteria, yeasts, and molds within minutes. With an average of 12 strains per species and enhanced workflow efficiency, the VITEK MS PRIME ensures accurate and robust species identification. This notice of intent is not a request for competitive quotes. No solicitation documents are available and telephone requests will not be accepted. However, any business that believes it can meet these requirements and possesses relevant past experience and expertise may give written notice. Supporting evidence must be furnished in sufficient detail to demonstrate the ability to comply with the above requirement. Responses will be considered by the Government, however, a determination by the Government not to compete the proposed acquisition based upon responses of this notice is solely within the discretion of the Government. No telephone request will be accepted. NAICS Code 334516 / 1000 Employees. Responses received by 3pm EST. on June 19th, 2026 will be considered by the Government. Any inquires can be emailed to Byron.Brown4@va.gov. No telephone request will be accepted.
